Having solid systems in place has helped Laser Plumbing Christchurch East manage significant business growth over the past few years.
The Christcurch earthquakes were a catalyst for growth at Laser plumbing Christchurch East.
Carol McCann, who runs the company with husband Chris Dick says,
"At the time of the earthquake we had eight staff, now we have 32.
Directly after the Februrary earthquake, there was a massive amount to do, with emergency work, getting bills paid and debt collection. Once that was completed the work dried up, so we decided to diversify. We've taken on fire repairs, work from Fletchers and we've also bought a drainage suction combi truck, so we can now do drainage relays and drains to new homes."
A major benefit of being part of Laser Group, they say, has been getting to know an dlearn from other plumbers in the group.
"As a group of business ownesers, they have a huge amount of experience and knowledge and are great guys."
The company is also a member of Master Plumbers, enjoying the support and networking opportunities it offers. Being a member also gives the company added credibility with consumers, says Carol.
"There are many tradespeople flooding the Christchurch market, and we find that our clients are looking for solid businesses they can trust."
Laser Plumbing Christchurch East's business success was recognised for the second year running in 2013, when it was selected from Laser Plumbing's 31 New Zealand members to win the Member of the Year Gold Award at the Laser International Conference in Auckland. The event also saw the company collect Silver for Excellence in Systems and Bronze for Outstanding Growth.
Doing it for charity
Each year since 2009, as part of its conference, Laser hosts a Charity Taskforce event. This year was no exception with Chris and Carol rolling up their sleeves with other Kiwi and Australian members who were donating their time for a Habitat for Humanity project to build there sleep-outs to address overcrowding issues for familities in need. The day also saw a revamp for the Habitat for Humanity 'Restore' in East Tamaki.
Toilets taps and basins were among the $30,000 worth of products donated by Laser's key suppliers for this year's Charity Taskforce event.
It was a cold, horrible day in Auckalnd, but despite that we achieved so much. It makes you realise just how much you can get done when that many people come together," says Carol.
